JOB SHADOWS
My Experience
Nobody is born a professional at their industry-everyone who wants to be exceptional at something has to work hard at it, both through practical work experience and education. Read below for details on my experiences being in classroom working first-hand with students.
ST. MARK'S ELEMENTARY
November 28, 2018
Oh, third grade! What a crazy experience! They were such a different group of kids than I had experienced with the kindergartners. None the less, I loved it just as much. I got the opportunity to go back to my old elementary school and shadow a wonderful third grade teacher, Alayna Klausmeyer. Right off the bat, the kids had to take a math test. I had gone over third grade math in many years. For their sake (and mine), I decided to take the test with them, just in case they had any questions. I wanted to be able to answer anything they needed help with. The kids were super sweet and I could tell they were so excited to have me there with them the entire day. It was crazy to see how much the school and curriculum had changed since I was in third grade. Mrs. Klausmeyer did an amazing job in getting the students excited for what they were going to learn about. The energy she brought to the classroom easily rubbed off on everyone in the room. After talking with Mrs. Klausmeyer, I plan to go back to her classroom during my senior year for an internship. I loved being with the students and can't wait to go back soon!
Above is the artwork our lovely Kindergarten class created to cheer on the high schoolers!
This is me working with a student teaching her the differences between letters and words.
GARDEN PLAIN ELEMENTARY
November 2, 2018
I had the great honor to work with the Kindergarten teacher at Garden Plain Elementary, Joan Pauly. She is such a dedicated teacher, and it shows when she is in the classroom. Mrs. Pauly has such a great bond with every single one of her students. I admired that about her. While in the classroom, I assisted in teaching many things such as the difference in words, letters, and sentences. It was so eye-opening being able to see the progress that the students show over a very small amount of time. It really makes like you feel like you are doing something right. During our very eventful day, Mrs. Pauly and I went to the highschool and hung up the beautiful creations the kids had made the day before. (pictured above) It was such a great experience to witness the environment of a classroom first hand. I loved every single bit of it. I would go again in a heartbeat to see the kids again and work along side with such an amazing teacher.
